Workshops/Classes

Sarah teaches Painting and Drawing at the Northern Beaches College of Tafe, The Sydney Gallery School (Meadowbank Tafe) and at the Workshop Art Centre in Willoughby. Four and Five Day Holiday workshops and Weekend Masterclasses focusing on advanced techniques such as Encaustic are also held at Willoughby.  Nine week term classes focus on historical techniques and applications of oil and acrylic painting and drawing fundamentals.

Workshop Art Centre 33 Laurel St Willoughby

Painting in Oil and Acrylic

By referring to the Masters we will explore the techniques associated with painting in oil and acrylic. Learn traditional and contemporary colour mixing, basic drawing and composition, painting in layers, impasto, scumbling and glazing using still life, landscape and the figure as subject. All skill levels accommodated.

Life Drawing

 A class for all levels, working with wet and dry media using both academic and experimental approaches. Using a different model each thee with the opportunity to draw from 2 models for one session.

 

WEEKEND WORKSHOPS

Large Scale Painting in Oil or Acrylic
Sat and Sun 10.00am – 4.00pm

Develop one or more large scale paintings focusing on one subject Various approaches to making large paintings will be introduced with time to plan and develop from the drawing stage through to completed painting/s. Focus on details and explore the paint media.

Encaustic Masterclass
Sat and Sun 10.00am – 4.00pm

Encaustic is a painting medium that combines colour pigment with hot beeswax, oil and resin. Invented in the 4th Century BC it is rich, tactile with light absorbing depth- the antithesis of slick. On the first day have a play to gain an understanding of what the medium can do and on the Sunday we will work towards creating some finished woks.
